Natalie Jackson: #SeeSportyBeSporty

Alasdair Hooper and Will Moulton are joined by the co-founder of Totally Runable Natalie Jackson on episode 31 of SportSpiel.

FEATURE INTERVIEW

On our feature interview section (5:24) Will chats to Natalie about Totally Runable as well as the idea behind the #SeeSportyBeSporty campaign.

The premise of the campaign – devised by Natalie and former Olympic sprinter Emily Freeman – is a simple one, too increase the visibility of women’s sport in the media.

Totally Runable conducted their own research into this lack of visibility, buying a copy of each of the UK’s top newspapers once a month between July 2017 to June 2018.

Of all the photos they saw, 17 per cent depicted sporting action or players but just 2.9 per cent were of women.

PART TWO

Alasdair and Will present the news round-up (19:37) as they go through some of the important sports headlines from the past couple of weeks, including updates on the 2026 Winter Olympics bids, rugby referee Sara Cox’s historic moment and a vital settlement on concussion in the NHL.

In our debate topic this week (35:52) we look at the changes at the top of the Premier League as Chief Executive Richard Scudamore is replaced by Susanna Dinnage. We look at the challenges facing the incoming head of the league and we also react to the news Scudamore is set to receive a £5million parting gift from the 20 clubs.
