Ethan Treacy: Living life at full speed

Alasdair Hooper and Will Moulton are joined by British Short Track speed skater Ethan Treacy on episode 35 of SportSpiel.

FEATURE INTERVIEW

On our feature interview section (4:57) interviewer Yashas Mudumbai makes his podcast debut by speaking to Ethan Treacy of GB Short Track.

In their chat the pair talk about Ethan’s journey in the sport as well as the family influences he has – his brothers Farrell and Niall are GB speed skaters.

After making his Olympic debut at PyeongChang 12 months ago, there is still plenty more Ethan wants to achieve but things are arguably much more difficult this time around.

Following UK Sport’s decision to pull funding for short track, the skater talks about his reaction upon hearing that decision and how the team are coping now.

PART TWO

Alasdair and Will present the news round-up (25:36) as they go through some of the important headlines that caught their eyes, including England’s cricket woes, barrier-breaking Kendall Coyne Schofield, and the decision to strip Malaysia of hosting the World Para Swimming Championships.

In our discussion topic this week (41:57) we look at the depth of talent in the ranks of British female winter sport in a week where Charlotte Bankes, Izzy Atkin, Menna Fitzpatrick and Jen Kehoe all came away with medals.

Is this as good as it has ever been?

We also hold the latest round of Ask Alasdair (53:26) where Will asks Alasdair, and then the listeners, a sports trivia question.
