Boxing Special: Hannah Rankin

Alasdair Hooper hosts a boxing special episode of the podcast with Scottish boxer Hannah Rankin.
Having grown up on a sheep farm in Scotland the 28-year-old classical musician has now set her sights on becoming her country’s first ever boxing world champion.
Since turning professional in 2018 it’s currently six victories in nine bouts with the highlight being her victory that earned her the WBC silver super middleweight title.
In this wide-ranging interview Hannah takes us through her life as a professional freelance bassoonist as well as her sport, which helped her cope with grief when she suddenly lost her mum to cancer shortly after taking it up.
She tells us about her time in the limelight where she faced American Claressa Shields and she also takes us through the challenges of being a female in boxing – from sexism to funding.
There is also the small matter of her upcoming fight on June 15 where she will fight Sarah Curran in Paisley for the IBO Super Welterweight title.
