Danielle Brown: Paralympic gold and ‘humiliating’ classification tests

Alasdair Hooper and Will Moulton are joined by two-time Paralympic gold medalist Danielle Brown MBE on episode 38 of SportSpiel.

FEATURE INTERVIEW

On our feature interview section (5:25) will chats to the inspiring 31-year-old about her career in archery and her role with The Mintridge Foundation.

The duo chat about winning two Paralympic golds, with the second coming off the back of a nail-biting final, as well as the origin of that trademark pink hat.

But Danielle also talks about the difficulties she has had to endure through sport, namely the reclassification test that she failed in 2013 meaning she could no longer compete.

Not only did she have to face up to the fact of a life away from the sport, but the test she went through was also ‘humiliating’ and ‘incredibly painful’.

PART TWO

Alasdair and Will present the news round-up (38:46) as they go through some of the important headlines that caught their eyes, including the women’s ice hockey boycott in North America, the NFL’s latest move to grow their influence in London, and Liberty Media’s failure to deliver on Formula 1 promises.

In our discussion topic this week (56:46) we analyse the England Women’s World Cup squad selected for the tournament in France.

We look at those who missed out and also what the pioneering announcement on social means for the game as a whole.

Lastly we hold the latest round of Ask Alasdair (1:11:27) where Will asks Alasdair, and then the listeners, a sports trivia question.
