Ryan Anderton: Cycling for mental health

Alasdair Hooper, Will Moulton and episode five guest Niki Kovacs are joined by mental health advocate and cyclist Ryan AndertonĀ on episode 30 of SportSpiel.

FEATURE INTERVIEW

On our feature interview section (4:10) guest interviewer Niki chats to Ryan ahead of his incredible challenge – to cycle 4802 miles in 21 days around the coast of Britain.

During their conversation Ryan – aka ReCycleYourself – talks about his daunting challenge, with all proceeds going to the charity Mind, but also about his own battles with his mental health.

At the age of 30 he attempted to commit suicide in Blackpool but now, eight years later, Ryan is using the power of cycling to better himself and pass the message on to others.

PART TWO

Alasdair, Will and Niki present the news round-up (34:05) as they go through some of the important sports headlines from the past couple of weeks, including news from the Invictus Games, the ongoing mess at USA Gymnastics and what’s been happening at Six Day London.

In our debate topic this week (52:52) we ask if Christian Wade has been let down by rugby with the 27-year-old Wasps winger deciding to quit the sport in order to pursue a career in American Football.
